The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating reports of smoke and engine fires in the 2007 model year Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica AWD. Chrysler has also received some warranty claims pertaining to the fire problem. Reports indicate that the fires occurred due to a faulty power steering seal. Chrysler has responded to Office of Defect Investigation’s information request on the November 2, 2007. It stated that the alleged defect occurs only in the SUVs equipped with the 4.0 liter engines. The Office of Defect Investigation has opened an engineering analysis to assess the cause and scope of the alleged defect.
